WATCH | ‘From Sharjah to Rome via the Spice Route’ exhibition opens in Italy
Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi inaugurated From Sharjah to Rome via the Spice Route, the first Arab exhibition hosted at the Curia Julia in the Colosseum Archaeological Park.
Organised by the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), the exhibition showcases 110 rare artefacts from Sharjah’s ancient trade hubs, Mleiha and Dibba Al-Hisn, highlighting the region’s historical trade and cultural ties with Rome during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Dignitaries from the UAE and Italy attended the event, underscoring its significance in promoting international cultural dialogue.
The exhibition, running until 4 May 2025, reveals Sharjah’s role in global trade networks, displaying Roman glass flasks, a bronze Venus statue, and coins from the Roman and Greek empires. It also explores the deep cultural exchanges facilitated by the Spice Route, reaffirming Sharjah’s historical and economic influence.
